Our Monday, May 11th Hometown Hero is Ashley Crum from Lexington. Ashley works at Dover Manor Nursing Home in Georgetown, KY. Ashley is a social worker at the nursing home and has to evaluate residents daily, as well as assist families during this time when we they are unable to visit our loved ones. Ashley was nominated by a resident’s daughter, Sharae (pronounced Sha RAY). Sharae says, “My father happens to be one of the residents at Dover Manor. With his dementia he doesn’t understand why I can’t visit. Ashley has eased my anxiety and my father’s significantly. Ashley has gone above and beyond to offer her Facetime at least 2-3 times a week so my father and i can communicate. She has never once declined. She takes the time out if her busy schedule to allow me that peace of mind. Ashley checks in on my father and sends me photos on the days I don’t call. She tells me how he is doing and keeps me in the loop about everything. I don’t think my father would have made it through this without Ashley. I know I wouldn’t have. Even when I feel like Im burdening her, she smiles her big smile and says ‘no worries, don’t worry about it, its what I’m here for’. Ashley has been the biggest hero of mine in 2020. She is stepping up where needed and does it with happiness!”
