Our Wednesday, June 10th Hometown Hero – Devine Carama of Believing in Forever!

Our Wednesday, June 10th Hometown Hero is Devine Carama of Lexington.  Devine has been an active member of the Lexington community for many years.  Since the pandemic began to affect people in Lexington, Devine, through his charity Believing in Forever, collected food, diapers, cleaning supplies and other needed items and distributed them to those in need.  He partnered with DJ J.K. 47 for ‘Community on the Corners’, pop up performances on different street corners around Lexington to provide music and entertainment and give away care packages.  He’s spearheaded a number of different groups to help those in the community, including  ‘Sons of Single Mothers’, which mentors young men ages 8-17 and another called ‘Bridging the Gap’, which helps young men ages 18-30 find their purpose and turn pain into positivity.  Devine teaches Lyricism and Leadership, a 3-credit class, at the University of Kentucky through the Community Leadership and Development department.  His annual coat drive, A Coat to Keep the Cold away, recently passed the 10,000 coat mark.  Devine is renaming the coat drive ‘Kamaria Love the Kids Coat Drive’ to honor his daughter, whom he lost in a car accident this spring.
