Hometown Heroes – Mark Mehrizi and the Employees at Pie 5 Pizza and Pizza Inn

Our Thursday, April 30th Hometown Heroes are Mark Mehrizi and the employees at Pie 5 Pizza (Lexington) and Pizza Inn (Frankfort)
When the COVID-19 disruption began, Mark and the employees at Pie 5 Pizza and Pizza Inn in Frankfort wanted to find a way to help their community and give patrons an opportunity to ‘pay it forward.’ They created a program called “Feed an Essential Employee” and started a GoFundMe page to help support the program. The program allows Pie Five Pizza and Pizza Inn guests to purchase a meal for frontline workers for $5 or $10 while pacing a call-in order or ordering online. Patrons can also make donations directly to the GoFundMe page. All funds go directly to the cause. The meals are discounted and delivered to the essential workers for free. Each day they have been delivering to a different location. The Feed an Essential Employee program was so well received it made national news and the Pie 5 / Pizza Inn parent company, Rave Restaurant Group, adopted the program and put it in place nationwide to feed frontline workers across the country.
In addition to the Feed an Essential Employee program, Pie 5 and Pizza Inn has held a PopUp shop for our friends at CBD Kentucky to sell Hand Sanitizers and hosted their first Contactless Fundraiser, Pizza for Paws, to benefit the Lexington Humane Society.
