Benny's Picks Week 12
by Ben Tompkins,posted Nov 14 2013 11:10PM
Did you check the kid’s record last week? Ole Benny Boy is coming off a BIG 5-2 week and ready to continue the streak. It’s funny, when I first started making these picks at the beginning of the season, I thought to myself, ‘how hard can this really be?’ But fellers I’m telling you what, there’s a lot more than meets the eye when it comes to making these educated guesses.
Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not claiming to be a guru (yet), but anytime you’ve got a winning record against the wise guys in Vegas (I’m 32-27 on the year), you’re doing pretty well. Hopefully my predictions won’t let me down as I look to cash in on another week’s edition of Benny’s Picks.
Pick #1: Houston +16
I’m opening week 12 with a bang as Houston travels to my hometown city to take on Teddy Bridgewater and the Cards. I believe Louisville will win the game, but Houston is a team that matches up too well to be dogged by 16 points. Both teams are averaging 38 points, and U of L is outgaining the Cougars only by 11 yards per game with 481.2 and 470.2, respectively. Houston’s defense scares me a little bit, but I don’t think this game will be a blowout. I say the Cards win by 10 in this classic matchup.
Pick #2: Auburn -3.5
What a classic tale of the SEC.. Every year there’s another team that stops you and makes you say ‘where the hell did they come from?’ After an 0-8 SEC conference record, the War Eagles have won nine and lost one this season, including five SEC wins. Their one loss? LSU—I’ll give it to them. Georgia’s offense has proven to be faulty throughout the season, and I know they’ve been a man short in most categories; I’m not saying this will be a blowout, but I like this Auburn team to win by at least a touchdown at home on Saturday.
Pick #3: Stanford -4
Guys, seriously, Stanford by less than a touchdown v. USC? Stanford is grinding this year and has taken down Oregon, Oregon State at Oregon State and UCLA in the past three weeks. USC has responded well with Lane’s departure, but I think David Shaw and his 8-1 Cardinals certainly pull out a double digit win.
Pick #4: UCF -17
I like UCF in this game not only because Temple is 1-8 this year in theAAC, but because Temple has a poor record at home and even dropped a game to Fordham. LOL WHO?!? No. 17 in the BCS Standings (only three above Louisville who lurks in the wings), UCF must come out and put a strong performance on Saturday to continue bolstering their resume as the end of the season draws near. I like the Knights to go out and get the win by three touchdowns.
Pick #5: Cincinnati -1
The good men at linemakers.com have listed the Cincy and Rutgers game a toss-up, essentially. The line opened at Cincy -1, but the rest of the week has shown em dashes on the Rutgers side. Both schedules are laughable, so I’ll pick Cincinnati and hope that they win in the battle of the AAC’s finest.
Bonus Pick: Michigan State -6 Bonus Pick: Duke +3.5
April Lancaster's night at the race: She was front row and center at the Quaker State 400 where Brad Keselowski got the win. ÂÂÂ Take a look at these up close and personal images she had just a few inches away from the track. ÂÂÂ
